Photographs ![]() Thursday morning found all areas of government functioning. Buckeye Girls State celebrated, along with Ohio, the bicentennial. Each of the five counties at Girls State replicated a barn for the celebration. The creations of the barns were at the inspiration of the City Recreation Directors and each of the five cities with the county was busy creating the barns. ![]() Here we see the Dickson County elected officials busy at work creating their budgets and overseeing their respective areas. ![]() Two of the eleven Curl County elected officials took time out of the busy government functioning time to have their picture taken. ![]() Also part of setting up a county is creating a county jail. Creativity abounds in the Kates Gym as each of the five county jails reflects a different appearance. ![]() After completing an application, exam, and individual interviews, the Buckeye Girls State Troopers are rewarded on Thursday with a graduation ceremony. Several high ranking officers from the Ohio Highway Patrol attend and take part in the celebration. ![]() During the day on Thursday, the Buckeye Girls State Attorney General and her staff were treated to a special occasion. Ohio's Attorney General Jim Petro graced us with a visit. His words of inspiration were invaluable to our Girls State Attorney General and we are ever grateful to him for taking time out of his busy schedule to be with us. ![]() The Director of Government introduces guests for the County and City Celebration. ![]() At the County and State Celebration, American Legion Department of Ohio Commander Glenn Hickman, brought greetings to the 878 Girls State Delegates from the over 1200 Boy Staters at Bowling Green State University. ![]() Ohio Supreme Court Justice Maureen O'Connor was a special guest that addressed the assembly and administered the oath of office to the County, Executive, and Legislative branches of government. ![]() The 2003 Buckeye Girls State Governor for the 57th Session of Ohio Buckeye Girls State was given the oath of office by Supreme Court Justice O'Connor. The Governor gave an inspiring inaugural address and spoke of the issues close to her heart. Those issues involved education, environment, economic growth, and health care.
